HOme How We Help DDS in the News

If you have questions about our debt counseling program, you’re not alone. You will find the answers to some of these questions below. We have established a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding debt management, and our Certified Financial Counselors have provided the answers.

If your questions are not answered, please feel free to call DDS at 1-800-913-0121. You can also click here to send us an email and we will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Do I need to continue sending payments to my creditors after I have signed up with DDS?

Yes - You will need to continue making payments until each creditor posts the first payment through the program.

How long does each payment through DDS take to be disbursed to my creditors?
Generally, payments will be disbursed to creditors within 3-5 business days.

How will my creditors know I have joined a Debt Management Program?

Upon receiving your signed Client Authorization and first payment, we send proposals to the creditors listed on the program. This proposal includes the account number and open balance you provided at the time of set up as well as the DDS payment indicated on your Repayment Schedule. In most cases, Proposals are accepted. When no changes are necessary, creditors will not formally respond to us. However, on occasion a creditor may decline a Proposal based on an invalid account number, an incorrect open balance, or creditor information. If this occurs, you will be notified to contact us regarding any requested changes to your account, including a possible payment increase.

If you are receiving collection calls, the collection agent may not be aware of a Proposal from our program until the benefits are granted. If the creditor calls to inform you that they have not received a proposal, please advise the creditor to call our Client Services department at 800-913-0121 (9am-7pm, M-F, Eastern Standard Time).

When should I expect to see benefits on my creditor statements?
Creditor benefits are based on consistent and sufficient payments throughout the duration of the program. However, after receipt of three consecutive, sufficient payments, your creditors begin to recognize your commitment to the program and may offer benefits which include: acceptance of the proposed payment amount, a reduced interest rate, elimination of late fees and penalties, and bringing a past due account to a current status. If you believe, after reviewing your fourth creditor statement, that you are not receiving benefits, you can contact our Client Services Department to discuss the benefits offered by each of your creditors. To assist you, please have your statement available.

Can I change my payment date?
Creditors expect to receive a payment every 30 days. Changing your payment date can adversely affect your payment cycle and any benefits granted by creditors. You should contact us immediately upon realizing that you may have difficulties in making a timely payment.

Will I receive a monthly statement?
Since we do not receive copies of your creditor statements, you should confirm that each of your creditors continues to provide monthly statements. DDS will also provide statements upon request, showing the disbursement of payments to your creditors. Each month, you should compare your creditor statements to ensure that your payments have posted accurately.

What should I do if I am able to increase my monthly payment or payoff a creditor balance?
You are encouraged to increase your payments whenever possible. Your payment can be increased for only one payment, or permanently. This will accelerate the time it takes you to become debt free.If you decide to pay the outstanding balance for one or more creditors, simply contact our Client Services department. We will request a payoff balance from your creditor(s) and contact you to make immediate payment arrangements.

What happens if I do not include all of my credit cards on the program with DDS?
It is recommended that you include all of your cards on the program and those accounts will be closed or inactivated. By not including all of your cards or opening any new accounts, you could risk losing some of the benefits that creditors offer. We will be requesting detailed creditor information in order to verify the accuracy of the credit card information that you have provided.

How does enrolling in a Debt Management Plan effect my credit profile?
You should be aware that your creditors might show your participation in our program on your credit profile, which could impair your ability to obtain additional debt while on our program.

How can I reach you once I'm enrolled on the program?

You can access and make changes to your account by calling 800-913-0121.

Client Services Representatives are available to assist you Monday through Friday 9am to 7pm, Eastern Standard Time.
